I paid for a plan but still can’t connect my custom domain

Updated

Learn why you might not be able to connect your custom domain, even if you’ve paid for a plan, and how to resolve it.

If you paid for a plan but can’t connect your custom domain, it may be due to the type of plan you purchased. Webflow offers two plan typesWorkspace and Site plans. Only paid Site plans let you connect a custom domain to your site.

Check which type of plan you purchased

To check which type of plan you purchased:

  1. Open the Workspace that contains your site
  2. Go to Workspace settings > Billing (i.e., click Billing in the left Workspace settings panel)

In the Workspace section, if a paid plan is listed, that indicates you’ve purchased a Workspace plan.

Below the Workspace section, you may also find a section titled Site plan subscription summary. This section only appears if there are active paid Site plans in the Workspace. If it’s not present, it means there are no active paid Site plans in that Workspace.

If the Site plan subscription summary section is present, check the Site name column to confirm the site to which you’d like to connect a custom domain is listed. If it’s not, this means it hasn’t been upgraded to a paid Site plan.

Note

Billing settings are specific to each Workspace. If you have more than one Workspace, make sure you’re checking the billing settings for the one that contains the site you’re trying to connect a custom domain to.

I purchased a Workspace plan by mistake — what should I do?

If you meant to purchase a Site plan to connect a custom domain (and don’t require a Workspace plan), you can cancel your Workspace plan and upgrade your Site plan instead.

How to cancel your Workspace plan

First, open the Workspace you'd like to downgrade. Then:

  1. Go to Workspace settings > Plans (i.e., click Plans in the left Workspace settings panel)
  2. Click Downgrade to Starter
  3. Choose a reason
  4. Type “DOWNGRADE” in all caps
  5. Click Downgrade Workspace plan to confirm

Note

Only one Starter Workspace is allowed per user. If you already have a Starter Workspace and want to downgrade a paid Workspace plan to a Starter Workspace, you’ll need to archive the existing Starter Workspace first.

I purchased a Site plan — why can’t I connect my custom domain?

If you’ve confirmed that you purchased a Site plan, but you’re still unable to connect a custom domain:

  1. Make sure the paid Site plan was added to the correct site in Workspace settings > Billing. If not, you can transfer the Site plan to the correct site.
  2. Try to quick connect your custom domain.
  3. Try to manually connect your custom domain, if quick connect doesn’t work, or if you prefer the manual option.
