Manage client seats

Add or remove clients from your sites and assign the right role for their access.

Note

Client seats are only available in Workspaces for freelancers and agencies (e.g., Starter, Freelancer, and Agency).

Client seats let you give clients controlled access to their site — without granting full Workspace permissions. When you add someone to a client seat, you choose a role that defines what they can see and change. These roles also shape what they can do inside the site itself, so you can keep core structure intact while letting clients review, update, or build within specific boundaries.

Client seat roles

You can assign a client one of the following roles. For a full permissions breakdown, review our site roles documentation.

  • Marketer — create and edit pages using components
  • Content editor — edit existing content
  • Reviewer — view and comment on sites

Client seat allotment

Client seats are assigned at the site-level, meaning each site has its own set of client seats. Filling a client seat on one site doesn’t affect client seats on any other sites, and your Workspace plan determines how many free client seats each site includes.

How to invite a client to a client seat

If you need to invite someone to multiple sites, repeat these steps for each site.

To invite a client:

  1. Go to Site settings > Site access > Clients
  2. Click Invite client
  3. Enter the client's email address
  4. Select a site role
  5. Choose if the client can publish the site or if they should pay for the site plan (if your Workspace plan includes these options)
  6. Click Send invite

The client will receive an email invite. They must accept the invitation, at which point they'll be asked to sign in or create a free Webflow account. Once the client accepts the email invite, they’ll have access to the site with the permissions associated with their role.

How to change a client's role

To change a client's role:

  1. Go to Site settings > Site access > Clients
  2. Choose a new role for a client

How to remove a client from a client seat

You can remove someone if you want to free a client seat or to revoke their access.

To remove a client:

  1. Go to Site settings > Site access > Clients
  2. Click the Options icon to the right of a client
  3. Click Remove from Workspace
