What’s the difference between the legacy Editor and edit mode?

Updated

Understand how Webflow’s two content editing experiences compare.

Important

The legacy Editor will be deprecated by the end of 2025 in favor of edit mode — a newer content editing experience within Webflow’s core platform. Legacy Editor users will be transitioned to Workspace seats and whitelabeling will no longer be available. Review our pricing and product strategy FAQ to learn more.

Currently, content editors can access your site(s) in one of two ways — via the legacy Editor or edit mode. There are key differences between each option.

Legacy Editor

The legacy Editor is a simplified interface that lets content editors update and add content to a site. Legacy Editor users can be added to sites with CMS, Business, and Enterprise Site plans, irrespective of Workspace plan. Each plan allows a different number of legacy Editors to be added for no additional cost. Learn how to invite teammates to work in the legacy Editor.

Legacy Editor limitations

Edit mode

Edit mode gives content editors the power to edit site content and manage assets within Webflow’s core platform. Edit mode ensures that site designs stay untouched while one or more team members edit static and dynamic content simultaneously. A limited Workspace seat is required to access edit mode, irrespective of Workspace or Site plan. There is an additional cost for each seat you add. Learn how to add seats to your Workspace.
