Launch Performance Max campaigns in Google Ads using your Webflow pages and ad creative.
The Google Ads integration in Campaigns supports Performance Max campaigns. Google Ads is one of the most widely used ad platforms, but gathering URLs and images for every ad is time-consuming. Campaigns pulls in the page URLs and ad images for each asset group, so you can skip the manual uploads and finish your setup in Google Ads.
Before you get started
You need a Google Ads account and a campaign hub in Campaigns. To continue to Google Ads, you also need to publish your page template and any page variations you want to launch.
Install and connect the Google Ads app
Before you get started
You must have Site manager or Designer permissions to install these apps.
The first time you use the integration, install the Google Ads app and connect it to your campaign hub. You only need to do this once per campaign hub.
To install and connect the app:
- Go to the Activate tab in your campaign
- Click View app listing
- Click Install
- Click Connect Webflow site
- Choose your campaign hub, then click Authorize
- Open the campaign hub in Webflow
- Click Connect Google account
- Sign in to Google and authorize access
Create a Performance Max campaign
Performance Max campaigns let Google show your ads across its channels and surfaces in whatever sizes and formats fit best. If you want to run a single ad, one set of assets is enough. To test multiple variations, add a set of images and a URL for each one. Campaigns handles that assembly for you.
Note
Google requires you to sign in each time you open the integration. This is a Google security requirement.
Step 1: Publish your campaign pages
To continue to Google Ads, your page template and any page variation you want to create a Performance Max campaign for need to be published in Webflow.
To publish your campaign pages:
- Click Publish to publish the page template
- Publish each page variation you want to launch from the variations table
Step 2: Prep your campaign for Google Ads
To generate your ad assets:
- Go to the Activate tab
- Click Start
- Sign in to Google and authorize access
- On the Confirm ad groups screen, click Generate assets next to a page
- Click Upload ad creative
- Upload your images
- Click Generate first ad
- In the Base image section, click Generate for each aspect ratio you want: 1.91:1, 16:9, 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, or 9:16
- If you have page variations, click Create variations to repeat this for each page
- Select the checkbox next to each page you want to launch
- Click Continue in Google Ads
The page checkboxes and Continue in Google Ads stay unavailable until you generate assets for at least one page. Each page you select becomes an asset group in Google Ads.
Step 3: Name your campaign and set conversion tracking
In Google Ads, give your Performance Max campaign a name and set conversion tracking. This step works the same as it does when you create a campaign directly in Google Ads.
- Give your campaign a name
- Choose your conversion goals and set your conversion tracking settings
- Click Continue
Step 4: Confirm your asset groups
Each variation becomes an asset group, and Campaigns fills in some of these pieces for you:
-
Final URL — the unique page URL for each variation, generated so every ad points to the right page version
-
Headlines, long headlines, and descriptions — generated by Google, not Webflow
-
Ad images — the ad creative you built in Webflow, sent to the matching asset group in each size, such as square, horizontal, and vertical
If you need to add or swap images, you can pull from your Webflow asset library directly.
To add a different image to an asset group:
- Open the asset group you want to update
- Click Add another Vertical Image
- Choose where to get your image:
-
Asset Library tab — choose any previously uploaded image
-
Creative tab — choose from your Webflow ad creative
-
Upload tab — upload an image directly
- Click Add image to apply the new image
Campaigns detects which page you're working on and labels the creative that belongs to it, so it's easier to find the right assets.
Step 5: Finish setup in Google Ads
From here, you finish your campaign in Google Ads like you normally do. You can set:
-
Location targeting — where your ads can appear
-
European Union (EU) political ads — whether your ads include political content
-
Target languages — the languages your audience speaks
-
URL settings — options for how Google handles your page URLs
-
Campaign budget — the amount you're willing to spend per day
-
Duration — when your campaign starts and ends
Review your campaign details, fix any errors Google flags, then launch. For help with these settings, visit Google Ads Help.
