Keep specific pages, components, or CMS fields out of automatic translation.
Translation exclusion rules let you tell Webflow not to translate specific content — a page, a component, a CMS collection, or individual fields within them. Excluded content isn’t translated, so it doesn’t use words from your translation allowance. Learn more about translating your site content.
What you can exclude
- Page content and page metadata, including CMS template pages
- Component content and component props
- CMS Collections and Collection item fields
Good to know
Individual CMS Collection items can't be excluded. Exclusions apply at the Collection and field level.
Exclude a page, component, or Collection
Make sure you have at least one target language set up — exclusion rules are defined per target language, so you can set them up before adding a locale to your site. Then:
- Open the Localize panel from the left toolbar
- Click Exclusion rules
- Click the Pages, Components, or Collections tab
- Check anything you'd like to exclude
- Click Add to exclusions
For pages, you can exclude canvas content, the page name, SEO title and description, and OG title and description. For components, you can exclude canvas content and any user-defined plain text or rich text props. For Collections, you can exclude the entire CMS Collection, the Collection item name, and any translatable user-defined field.
Exclude a field across multiple items
Use search to find and exclude a repeated field across many objects at once — for example, excluding the slug field from every CMS collection.
- In Exclusion rules, search for the field name (for example, "slug")
- Select every instance you want to exclude
- Click Add to exclusions to exclude them all at once
Limit an exclusion to specific languages or triggers
By default, an exclusion applies to all target languages and both translation triggers. You can narrow either one for each excluded field.
To change a single exclusion:
- In Excluded from translation, expand the page, component, or Collection
- Choose an option from the Languages dropdown next to the field
- Choose Auto, Manual, or both from the Translation trigger dropdown
To change several exclusions at once:
- Select the checkbox next to each exclusion you want to change
- Click Update
- Choose your Languages and Translation trigger settings
Changes save automatically.
Good to know
Auto covers agentic translation. Manual covers AI translations you request yourself, such as Translate to [language]. Neither stops you or a teammate from typing a translation yourself.
Remove an exclusion
To remove exclusions:
- Select the checkbox next to each exclusion you want to remove in Excluded from translation
- Click Delete
Use exclusions with the public API
Exclusion rules also apply to the public API, so you can pull only the content you've marked as translatable. Add the following query parameters to your request:
?localeId={primary locale id}&translatable={target locale id}This filters the response to only content defined as translatable for that target locale. It works for content excluded from both triggers or from the Manual trigger.

The Webflow AI Assistant is aware of exclusion rules and can help you manage them.
