Set Analyze & Optimize tracking to opt-out or opt-in

Updated

Let your website visitors decide if they want their engagement to be tracked.

Analyze and Optimize share tracking settings. When tracking is enabled for a visitor, it allows Optimize to run variations and allows analytics from their session to be recorded. Depending on where your visitors are located, you may need to give them the option to control this data tracking, either by allowing visitors to opt out or by requiring them to opt in. You can change your tracking settings anytime; ultimately, you’re responsible for deciding the right policy for your site.

Available tracking options

If tracking is Off, Analyze and Optimize are disabled — you can’t run variations or get analytics. When tracking is On, you can select one of these tracking options from the Insights settings

  • Always track visitors — every visitor is eligible to experience variations. The site tracks their engagement.
  • Let visitors opt out — tracking is enabled by default, but each visitor may opt out. If a visitor opts out, they won't be eligible to experience variations and won't be tracked.
  • Don't track by default (opt in) — tracking is disabled by default, but each visitor may opt in. If a visitor opts in, they're eligible to experience variations and their engagement is tracked.

How to set tracking to opt-in or opt-out

Open the site in Webflow, then:

  1. Go to the Insights tab
  2. Go to Settings > Tracking
  3. Select Let visitors opt out or Don't track by default (i.e., opt in)
  4. Publish your site for the changes to take effect

Important

Before these opt-out and opt-in tracking settings will function, you’ll have to add a script to your website's code that syncs these settings to your consent buttons (e.g., you use a consent management platform, or CMP).
