Real-time collaboration

Updated

Design synchronously with your team with real-time collaboration.

Important

Real-time collaboration is now available on all sites and plans, including single-user sites. As we complete the rollout, the opt-out option in Site Settings will be removed on February 25, 2026. On that date, any sites that previously opted out will be automatically re-enabled.

This update is part of our migration to a new system, which changes how site data is synced and saved across the platform, even for single-user sites. If you have questions or concerns, please contact our Support team.

Real-time collaboration lets teammates design and edit the same page at the same time in Webflow—no more waiting your turn or handing off control.

What you can do with real-time collaboration

  • Design together, live on the canvas
  • Track who’s working on what with presence indicators
  • Edit elements, layouts, styles, and content simultaneously
  • Use undo and redo independently
  • Work on any site on any Workspace plan

How it works

If other teammates are working in your site, their avatar will appear at the top of the canvas toolbar. A colored outline appears around the element they’re working on, so you can avoid overlapping edits. Everyone can:

  • Co-build and co-edit on the same or different pages
  • View presence indicators (avatars) in the top bar
  • Undo or redo their own actions
  • Copy and paste between pages

For best practices, we recommend you use clear communication with teammates when editing shared elements and utilize roles and permissions to help structure access and editing rights. The last change that hits our servers is the one saved when edits overlap.

All edits are saved automatically. If you’re having trouble saving, please check your internet or server connection.

Note

When you initiate a site restore from backup, the site will be locked in Webflow for all users. You’ll receive a confirmation email when the restore is complete.

Supported plans and users

Real-time collaboration is a core feature available for all sites, regardless of the Workspace plan or Site plan.

Limitations

  • No live cursors — presence is represented through canvas highlighting
  • No keystroke syncing — text changes are synced after a user clicks out of the text block
  • Real-time collaboration is not compatible with legacy interactions or comments
  • The following features can be used on real-time enabled sites, but are single user only: Legacy Editor, classic interactions, page branches, and approvals
  • Collaboration is limited to 25 concurrent users

Frequently asked questions

My changes aren’t showing on the canvas anymore. What should I do?

If you recently made changes but they’re no longer showing on the canvas, the change was either reverted due to a conflict or your changes may be taking a while to sync and save.

Conflicts occur when another user or a background task (such as a third party app update) makes a change that conflicts with your change. In these instances, we accept the last change that was made to the layout or element.

Slow syncing typically occurs for users in low bandwidth regions. This can cause your changes to save more slowly to our database, which increases the risk of conflicts or timeouts. We recommend working on a stable internet connection. If you continue to experience issues, please contact our Support team.

My recent changes aren’t showing up on my published site.

If your recent changes aren’t showing in your published site, this could mean some of your changes are still saving. We recommend publishing again to correct the issue.

I’m getting a broken Wi-Fi connection symbol / “You’re offline” message. What should I do?

The broken Wi-Fi connection symbol or “You’re offline” message can happen when your network connection is unstable or restricted. Follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Hard refresh the page

  2. Check your internet connection

  3. Try using a different network, e.g., a mobile hotspot

  4. If you’re on an office or school network, confirm with your IT department that requests to webflow.services (including any subdomains) are allowed
