Search and act in the Designer and Dashboard to add, find, convert, and open things faster.
Quick find is a search bar in the Webflow Designer that speeds up your workflow as you design and build sites. With a few keystrokes or a click, you can add elements, find assets, jump to pages, and more, without opening separate panels.
Use Quick find on the Webflow canvas
With a few keyboard strokes or a click of a mouse, you can:
- Add elements to the canvas without opening the Add panel
- Add or edit a component without opening the Components panel
- Find an asset and add it to the canvas or access its settings without opening the Assets panel
- Convert elements to other types
- Select on-page elements (including classes, components, and custom names) on the current page without scrolling through the canvas or using the Navigator to locate them
- Create a new page, go to a specific static page, or go to a specific Collection item detail page without opening the Pages panel
- Open a Collection in the Collection manager to modify your Collection items
- Go to a secondary locale view and translate the page or selected element to the language of the current locale view
Press Command + E (on Mac) or Control + E (on Windows) to open Quick find. You can also open it with Command + K (on Mac) or Control + K (on Windows).
Customize Quick find settings
By default, the finder excludes some of the actions listed above. You can include or remove all of the default actions in the finder settings.
To access and customize finder settings:
- Hover over the finder search bar
- Click the settings cog icon
- Check the actions you’d like to include, or uncheck the actions you’d like to exclude
Once you’ve customized your finder settings, click inside the finder to begin searching. For example, when you’re searching for assets and components, you can hide other actions so your results only show the content and actions you want for your current task.
Use Quick find queries
You can use any word from your existing classes or page names as a Quick find query. You can also use specific names for:
- An element (e.g., slider, map, button)
- An asset or the extension of an asset (e.g., .png, .svg)
- A page
- A Collection page (like the name of a blog post)
Quick find displays the results for your query in the All results tab. Results are filtered and listed under separate tabs based on their type (e.g., elements, components, assets). You can customize the finder to include or exclude any of these types.
You can move through results of the same type using the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard. Press the Tab key or hold Shift and press Tab to move between the tabs.
Note
Quick find displays the top 50 results for a given query. You may need to make your query more specific to find the item you’re looking for.
Use Quick find actions
You can take actions through Quick find without opening various panels. You can:
- Add items to the canvas
- Select elements and components on the canvas
- Convert elements to other types of elements
- Go to specific pages
- Open the Collection manager for a specific Collection
- Open the settings of an asset
- Go to a secondary locale view
- Translate pages or elements to the language of the current locale view
Add items to the canvas
To add items to the canvas, search for the element, component, or asset name. To add a Box, search for box. To add a Box with a tag already set, search for the tag. For example, searching for div shows Box <div>, and searching for address shows Box <address>.
Then, add the item in one of the following ways:
- Select the result using the up and down arrow keys, then press the Enter key
- Click the result
- Click and drag the result anywhere on the canvas or in the Navigator
Adding items using the first two methods drops the element next to an inline element, or under a block element. Learn more in the guide to the Add panel.
Create an entire layout with Quick find
With Quick find, you can create the layout of a section using only your keyboard. Start by using Quick find to locate and add an element to the canvas. Then, apply classes as you go:
- Press Command + Enter (on Mac) or Control + Enter (on Windows)
- Type in the class name and press the Enter key
- Repeat to add as many elements as you need to lay out your page
Select elements and components on the canvas
You can also use Quick find to select elements and components on the current page. To identify on-page elements, open the On-page elements tab. Use your keyboard’s arrow keys or your mouse to select the element or component in the tab. This also selects the element or component on the canvas. If the item is far down the page, the canvas scrolls to show the selected element.
To select a class so you can edit its styling, search for the class name and select the element. Then, press the S key to open the Style panel.
Convert elements to other types of elements
You can use Quick find to convert a Link Block to a Box, or a Box to a Link Block, Section, or Custom Element. You can convert a text link or a button to a heading, paragraph, text block, or block quote, and a text block to a link.
To convert an element using Quick find:
- Select the element you want to change on the canvas
- Open Quick find
- Type in "convert"
- Choose the option you want from the list in the All results tab
Go to specific pages
You can use Quick find to open any page within your site, including static, utility, Ecommerce, User, and Collection item pages, without opening the Pages or CMS panels. To go to a page, type in the name of the page or the Collection item and press the Enter key.
You can also create new static pages with Quick find. Type in "new page" and choose the Create new page option in the results. This takes you to the Pages panel to create your new page.
Open the Collection manager for a specific Collection
To open the Collection manager and update any of the Collection items, search for the name of any of your CMS Collections and press the Enter key.
Open the settings of an asset
Quick find also lets you open the settings of any asset. To do so:
- Search for the name or file extension (e.g., png, svg) of your asset
- Hover over the result you want in the All results tab
- Click the cog icon that appears
Learn more about managing assets.
Go to a secondary locale view
To go to a secondary locale view with Quick find, type in "switch" in the finder and choose the locale you want from the All results tab. Learn more about Webflow Localize.
Translate a page or element
After you go to a secondary locale view, you can use Quick find to translate entire pages or elements to the language used in that locale. Select the element or go to the page you want to translate. Type in "translate" and choose to translate the current page or the selected element from the All results tab. Learn more about Webflow Localize.
Use Quick find in the Webflow Dashboard
Open Quick find in the Dashboard
There are two ways to open Quick find in your Webflow Dashboard:
-
Keyboard shortcut — press Command + K (on Mac) or Control + K (on Windows). You can also open Quick find with Command + E (on Mac) or Control + E (on Windows). Some browsers reserve these shortcuts for default browser behavior. If that happens, press Command + Shift + K (on Mac) or Control + Shift + K (on Windows).
-
URL parameter — add
?qf=true to any Dashboard URL to open Quick find automatically, and use the qf_query parameter to pre-populate a search term. For example, visiting https://webflow.com/dashboard?qf=true&qf_query=my-site opens Quick find and searches for "my-site".
After Quick find opens, start typing in to search for:
- Any Workspaces you belong to
- Any sites inside your currently active Workspace
- Settings for your currently active Workspace or site
Search Workspaces with Quick find
You can search for any Workspace you belong to, including Workspaces you belong to as an agency or freelancer guest. Start typing in the Workspace’s name. If you belong to the Workspace as a guest, you can also set a custom nickname for it, and the nickname shows in Quick find. Learn more about setting custom Workspace nicknames.
Once you find the Workspace, click the result or press the Enter key to go to that Workspace.
Search sites with Quick find
To find a site, go to the Workspace where the site lives. Then, open Quick find and start typing in the site’s name or slug to see all the matching results.
Once you find the site, click it or press the Enter key to go directly to the Webflow canvas for that site. To open the site’s settings, click the gear icon in the search result, or press Shift + Enter.
Note
Quick find respects site-specific access and Webflow roles and permissions. You only see results for sites you have permission to access, and, for example, non-Workspace admins don’t see Billing settings in Quick find.
Search Workspace or site settings
You can use Quick find to search for settings inside your Workspace or inside a particular site. When you search on your Dashboard home page or outside the context of a particular site, Quick find returns only Workspace-level settings. When you search inside a particular site, it returns both Workspace-level results and site-level results for that site.
Quick find currently supports searching the names of the settings tabs in a Workspace or site, such as "General," "Plans," and "Billing." It doesn’t support searching for specific settings inside each tab.
