Downgrade or cancel your Site plan

Updated

Learn when and how to downgrade to a lower paid plan or cancel your Site plan entirely.

You can downgrade your Site plan at any time based on your site's needs. Depending on your setup, you may need to do a little prep work first — like removing add-ons or disabling Ecommerce — before the plan options you want become available.

Prepare to downgrade your Site plan

Depending on your site setup, you may need to make some changes before downgrading.

Prepare to purchase a Basic Site plan

The Basic Site plan isn't available for sites that use CMS features or have content editors. To make Basic available:

  1. Remove all CMS features from your site
  2. Go to Site settings > Site access > Editor access
  3. Remove all content editors

After removing all CMS features, the Basic Site plan will be available to purchase.

Prepare to purchase a non-Ecommerce Site plan

If you want to downgrade from an Ecommerce Site plan and no longer need a functional store, you'll need to disable checkout first:

  1. Open your site and go to Settings panel > Ecommerce > Checkout
  2. Disable checkout with the toggle
  3. Click Save

After disabling checkout, non-Ecommerce Site plans will be available. Go to Site settings > Plans > Website tab to purchase one.

Prepare to downgrade or cancel a Premium Site plan (or legacy Business Site plan) with add-ons

If your Premium Site plan (or legacy Business Site plan) has add-ons (e.g., bandwidth add-ons), you'll need to remove those add-ons before downgrading or canceling.

What happens after a Site plan downgrade

Note

Downgrading to a lower paid Site plan takes effect immediately. Downgrading to the free Starter Site plan takes effect at the end of your current billing period, unless you choose to downgrade immediately.

A few features are affected by downgrades and cancellations:

  • Static pages — if you downgrade to the Starter plan and have more than two static pages, your existing pages stay editable but you won't be able to add new ones unless your site is in a paid Workspace. Upgrading to a paid Site plan later restores this ability.
  • Custom code — if your site is within a Workspace with a paid Workspace plan, custom code isn't affected by a Site plan downgrade. Otherwise, any custom code added via Site settings, Page settings, or embed elements will remain on the site when published, but you won't be able to view or edit it until you're on a paid Site plan again.
  • Collection items and Ecommerce products — you'll retain access to edit all existing Collection items and Ecommerce products, but won't be able to add more. Everything stays published on your site. Upgrading to a paid Site plan later restores this ability.

How to downgrade to a lower paid Site plan

Before you get started

Make sure you've prepared your site to downgrade.

To downgrade to a lower paid plan (i.e., any plan except the free Starter Site plan):

  1. Go to Site settings > Plans
  2. Choose the Website tab or Ecommerce site tab
  3. Toggle Billed monthly or Billed yearly — yearly pricing lets you pay upfront for a full year at a discounted rate
  4. Choose the Site plan you want
  5. (Optional) Add related add-ons to the plan (e.g., more bandwidth)
  6. Click Continue to payment
  7. (Optional) Add a promo code if you have one and click Apply
  8. Review your order details, then complete your purchase to immediately charge your card on file

Note

When you downgrade your Site plan to a lower paid plan (i.e., any plan except the free Starter Site plan), the checkout modal window indicates the prorated account credit you'll receive for the unused time on the higher plan.

How to cancel your Site plan

Canceling your paid Site plan (i.e., downgrading to the free Starter Site plan) will remove your custom domains and unpublish your site from both its custom domains and your Webflow staging subdomain at the end of your current billing period.

If you need to cancel your Site plan immediately — for example, if you want to transfer your site — you can do so, but no credit is applied for unused time. Learn more about what happens after a Site plan downgrade.

Important

Your paid Site plan features are maintained until the end of your current billing period unless you choose to downgrade immediately. No credit is automatically issued for unused time when downgrading to the Starter plan. Learn more about proration and refunds.

Downgrade at the end of your billing period

Make sure to prepare your site for downgrading. For example, you'll need to remove any add-ons before downgrading to the Starter plan.

To cancel at the end of your current billing period:

  1. Go to Site settings > Plans > Website tab
  2. Choose Downgrade to Starter
  3. Choose Continue to downgrade
  4. (Optional) Choose the reason you're downgrading
  5. Click Downgrade to Starter

A banner will appear at the top of the Plans page showing when the downgrade will take effect. If you change your mind, contact Webflow Support to cancel the scheduled downgrade.

Downgrade immediately

Make sure to prepare your site for downgrading. For example, you'll need to remove any add-ons before downgrading to the Starter plan.

To cancel your Site plan immediately, follow the steps above, then:

  1. Go to Site settings > Plans > Website tab
  2. Choose Downgrade now
  3. Click Downgrade now to immediately downgrade to the free Starter plan

Important

Downgrading immediately removes your custom domains and unpublishes your site from its custom domains and Webflow staging subdomain. Learn more about what happens after a Site plan downgrade.
