Resolve issues in Webflow that contribute to slow or poor performance or prevent Webflow from saving your work.
There are a few issues that can slow down Webflow or prevent it from saving your work. You can typically resolve these with a few troubleshooting steps.
Note
You can generally improve your site performance in Webflow by following the same steps you’d take to improve performance and reduce bandwidth consumption on your published site (e.g., cleaning up unused styles and interactions, deleting unused assets from the Assets panel, etc.).
Check your internet connection
Webflow runs smoothly even with a slower internet connection. Whenever your browser loses internet connection, the save indicator changes to a red internet connection icon to indicate that your website can’t be saved at that time.
To be sure internet speed isn’t an issue, double-check your internet connection and verify your signal strength.
Check your browser version
Webflow officially supports the last three major versions of all modern browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. Make sure you’re using the latest version of whichever browser you’re using to work on your site in Webflow. You can check your browser version using a tool like What’s My Browser.
Check your browser extensions
Some browser extensions may cause performance issues in Webflow. You can launch Webflow in an incognito window to test whether browser extensions may be creating lag or other issues. If Webflow works better in incognito mode, test and find the extension(s) causing the issue and remove them from your browser or disable them while you’re working on your site in Webflow.
Pro tip
If you use Google Chrome, you can create a new Chrome profile without any extensions and use that profile to work on your site in Webflow.
There are a few extensions known to conflict or cause issues in Webflow:
- Grammarly
- Ghost Inspector
- Adblockers
- Flash Video Downloader
- Ublock Origin Extension
- GPS Coordinates for Google Maps
Please reach out to our support team if you’ve found other extensions causing issues in Webflow.
Note
Webflow automatically disables Grammarly in any content editor (e.g., rich text element, rich text field).
Clear unused styles
Sites with many unused styles can cause Webflow to run slowly. Try to limit the number of styles you use by styling elements with classes and clear unused styles from the Style selectors panel.
Optimize images
Sites with many heavy images can slow down any website, including Webflow. If your site images are too large, you’ll likely see performance issues both in Webflow and on your published site. You can compress your images by converting them to WebP or AVIF files using Webflow’s built-in image conversion tool.
