SSL hosting

Updated

Learn about SSL (Secure Socket Layer) hosting with Webflow.

SSL (Secure Socket Layer) is the standard method for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. It ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral, so you and your site’s visitors can be sure your information is safe.

Benefits & features of Webflow SSL hosting

SSL hosting with Webflow has a number of benefits:

  • End-to-end SSL security between Webflow servers and your websites
  • End-to-end encryption between your website and your site visitors
  • Automatic SSL delivery for HTML/CSS/JS and all images
  • Optimized SSL certificates for maximum compatibility
  • Earn Google’s trust and improve your SEO
  • Instant-on with no setup required

You don’t need to generate a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) — Webflow handles this for you.

Need to know

Webflow doesn’t support named certificates at the moment. Additionally, only Enterprise customers can use a certificate purchased from another SSL certificate provider.

SSL certificate renewal in Webflow

Webflow SSL hosting certificates automatically renew when the old certificate expires, as long as the DNS records are continuously pointed to Webflow and the site loads on Webflow servers. Certificates are not set to renew in advance, so monitoring tools may report warnings if you configured them to warn when the certificate isn’t installed in advance.

Note that tools like the Cloudflare proxy can interfere with SSL certificate provision.

Important

Webflow doesn’t automatically renew custom SSL certificates. You are required to manually update your custom SSL certificate before it expires.

How to upload a custom SSL certificate

Enterprise customers can upload custom SSL certificates for increased flexibility in site hosting. For more information, visit our guide to uploading custom SSL certificates.

Note

Custom SSL certificate uploads are only available for Enterprise customers. Contact our sales team for more information.
