Set your site’s 2-letter language code.
Setting your site’s language code (also called an “ISO code” or “language tag”) lets you declare the natural (human) language of your site. This helps browsers, translation applications, and assistive technologies like screen readers accurately perform language tasks such as:
- Selecting correct accents and pronunciation in text-to-speech applications
- Grammar and spell-checking
- Translating web pages
- Applying appropriate fonts
You can use simple language codes (e.g., en
for English or es
for Spanish) or variant-specific language codes (e.g., en-US
for American English, fr-CA
for Canadian French). Using the most accurate language code ensures better support for regional spelling, grammar, and pronunciation.
How to set your site’s language code
Webflow Localization automagically sets your site’s language code according to locale. To set a language code for your site, set your site’s primary locale:
- Open your site
- Click the “globe” icon and choose Localization settings or go to Settings panel > Localization
- Choose your primary locale language or language and country combination from the Primary locale dropdown
- Click Save to save your primary locale settings
- Click Save changes to save your localization settings
-
Publish your site
You can change your primary locale at any time.
Note
The locale-specific language codes set in Localization settings override the legacy language code field in Site settings > General > Localization.
