Analyze clickmaps

Updated

Learn how clickmaps reveal visitor interaction patterns on your webpages.

Clickmaps show where visitors click on your page — directly on the elements you’ve designed — so you can spot patterns, uncover missed opportunities, and strengthen your page’s performance. Because clickmaps live right in the Webflow canvas, you can connect data to design decisions without switching tools.

View clickmaps in Analyze mode

Clickmaps appear when you open Analyze mode on any page of your site. They overlay click activity directly on your canvas, so you can see which elements visitors engage with most — and which ones they tend to overlook.

To open Analyze mode and view clickmaps:

  1. Open your site in Webflow
  2. Go to the Pages panel and choose a page
  3. Click the View Analyze mode icon in the top bar

How clickmaps work

Analyze mode ties each click to a specific element — i.e., a button, link, navigation item, or other clickable component. This means you’re not interpreting fuzzy hotspots or raw coordinates. Instead, you’re reviewing real interaction data for real elements.

Clickmaps also surface interaction counts in the Analyze mode panel as Top events. As you explore them:

  • Hover over a clickmap event to highlight that event on the canvas or in the panel
  • Hover over a top event metric to see its matching indicator on the page
  • Click a top event in the panel to jump directly to that element on your webpage

What clickmaps help you understand

Use clickmaps to compare intent vs. reality — e.g., if a call-to-action isn’t getting many clicks, you may want to revisit its prominence or placement. Beyond individual elements, clickmaps give you an at-a-glance view of visitor behavior. You can use them to:

  • Identify your most and least clicked elements
  • Spot confusing or overlooked interface patterns
  • Validate whether a new design is resonating
  • Reposition or restyle calls-to-action
  • Lean into high-performing components

Clickmap insights pair well with other Analyze mode overlays like average fold lines and scroll depth, helping you see not only what gets clicked, but where those elements sit in your layout.

Segment clickmaps by device type

Visitor behavior shifts across screen sizes. Navigation moves, layouts stack, and calls-to-action may appear earlier or later in the page flow. Analyze mode keeps clickmap data segmented by device type so you can see these differences clearly.

To switch devices or show data from all devices, use the Device type filters in the Analyze mode panel.
