Frequently asked questions

Are Stripe and PayPal supported in all countries?

Stripe and/or PayPal may not be available in every country. If you need to set up a store in an unsupported country, you can use Stripe Atlas to incorporate a U.S. company, open a U.S. bank account, and start accepting payments through Stripe. Learn more about Stripe availability.

Merchant accounts in the following countries don’t support Webflow’s PayPal integration:

  • Turkey

Additional resources:

Are there any credit or debit card processing fees?

Stripe and PayPal may charge a fee each time you accept a credit or debit card payment — typically this includes a processing fee and a percentage of the transaction amount. This fee varies depending on the country you‘re in and the card used during checkout. Stripe fees and PayPal fees are collected on each successful transaction. Fees may or may not include taxes.

Does Webflow charge a transaction fee?

Depending on which Site plan your store is on, a transaction fee may apply in addition to any fees charged by your payment provider:

  • Ecommerce Standard — 2% transaction fee
  • Ecommerce Plus and Advanced — 0% transaction fee

Transaction fees are calculated on the order total including taxes (i.e., transaction fee = (order total + taxes)*0.02).

Note

Good to know:You can view the Webflow transaction fee for an order by exporting your orders to a CSV file from your Ecommerce orders list.

Important

Stripe doesn’t support transaction/application fees in Brazil, India, or Malaysia. If you or your business are located in one of these countries, your store must be on an Ecommerce Plus or Advanced site plan. Alternatively, you can use Stripe Atlas to incorporate a U.S. company, open a U.S. bank account, and accept payments through Stripe on an Ecommerce Standard Site plan.

Can I sell anything using these payment providers?

Stripe and/or PayPal may restrict the sale of certain types of goods and services on their platforms. To learn more about these restrictions, review Stripe’s Prohibited and Restricted Businesses and PayPal’s Acceptable Use Policy.

How do I receive my payouts?

  • PayPal — funds received through PayPal checkout are deposited into your PayPal account. You can then transfer the money to your bank account. Payouts are processed according to your PayPal account’s payout schedule.
  • Stripe — funds received through Stripe are deposited into the bank account linked to your Stripe account. Payouts are processed according to your Stripe account’s payout schedule. You can see a list of all of your payouts and the date that they are expected to be deposited into your bank account in your Stripe Dashboard‘s payout section.

How are disputes and fraud handled?

A dispute is a claim made by a payee through their card-issuing bank to report unauthorized transactions and request a chargeback to return the funds to the customer. Unauthorized transactions may be the result of a fraudulent purchase (stolen card or stolen card information) or a disagreement between the customer and the merchant (on price, purchased item, etc.).

For more information, check out the following resources:

Webflow Ecommerce is compliant with the European Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirements, which aim to reduce fraud. If your online store is in the European Economic Area (EEA), customers from EEA countries are required to provide an additional layer of authentication to confirm payment for the purchase. By verifying their identity through the method adopted by their card-issuing bank, the customer authorizes the purchase and reduces the odds of fraudulent purchases made by unauthorized parties using their card. This two-factor authentication shifts the burden of fraud prevention from the merchant to the payee, reducing disputes and chargebacks.

Note

Good to know:Disputed payments may incur a fee. If the customer’s bank resolves the dispute in your favor, the fee is fully refunded.

Can I issue refunds?

Yes, you can issue refunds from the Orders tab in the Designer. There‘s no fee for issuing a refund.

What are the SCA and PSD2 Regulations and am I affected?

Requirements for authenticating online payments were introduced in Europe in 2019 as part of the second Payment Services Directive (PSD2). The Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirements apply to businesses in the European Economic Area (EEA) that accept online card payments from cardholders whose banks are also located in the EEA.

As a Webflow merchant in the European Economic Area (EEA), what do I need to do to make my store Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) compliant?

Webflow Ecommerce uses Stripe checkout, which fully supports SCA 3D Secure authentication.

If you’re a merchant in the EEA, your Webflow Ecommerce store is Payment Services Directive (PSD2) and SCA compliant if it’s been published on or after September 11, 2019.

I can’t connect PayPal to my Ecommerce store.

To troubleshoot PayPal connection issues, confirm that:

  • the PayPal account is a Business PayPal account
  • the default currency set in your site’s Ecommerce settings matches the default currency used in your PayPal account
  • your PayPal account email has been verified
  • your PayPal account is only connected to one Webflow Ecommerce site — if you have multiple Ecommerce stores, you‘ll need a separate PayPal account for each of them
  • if your PayPal account was connected to another Webflow Ecommerce site at any time, the permissions have been revoked in PayPal and it’s been disconnected from the other site’s Ecommerce payment settings in Webflow

Important

If you tried connecting PayPal before your PayPal account email was verified, you‘ll need to login to your PayPal account and remove Webflow. Once your PayPal account email is verified, try connecting PayPal in your site’s Ecommerce Payment settings again.
